Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
|
Requests for page protection | ||
---|---|---|
This page is for requesting that a page, file or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), semi-protected, added to pending changes, move-protected, template protected (template-specific), upload protected (file-specific), or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates, semi-protection and pending changes are usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection), and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
If you would like to request a page to be protected, have an existing protection level lowered or an edit request, please follow the following steps:
=== [[Example Article Name]] === * {{pagelinks|Example Article Name}} '''Semi-protection:''' High level of IP vandalism. ~~~~ === [[Template:Example Template Name]] === * {{pagelinks|Template:Example Template Name}} '''Reduction in protection level:''' From full protection to template editor protection. ~~~~
=== Short descriptive header === * {{pagelinks|Wikipedia:Example Page Name 1}} * {{pagelinks|Wikipedia:Example Page Name 2}} '''Temporary semi-protection:''' High level of IP vandalism. ~~~~ |

Semi protection massive/persistent edit warring regarding new routes, date, and sources among IPs. TravelLover37 (talk) 18:55, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Korean Air destinations[edit]
Semi protection IPs continue to add irregular charters which should not be included per WP:AIRLINE-DEST-LIST. IP ranging 223.62.XXXX rapidly undoing edits without explanation (possible sock puppetry).TravelLover37 (talk) 19:01, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Pretty Little Liars (TV series)[edit]
Temporary pending changes: Advertisement spamming by IP and newly registered users, who are adding links which are supposedly to new episodes for this show. Not sure whether just pending changes or clear out semi-protection is warranted here. Similar activity was happening at Pretty Little Liars (season 7), where it is currently semi-protected. MPFitz1968 (talk) 21:54, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Héber Lopes[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Previous protection expired and vandalism started straight away. AIRcorn (talk) 22:08, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Nolito[edit]
Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Page has been semi-protected three times in last ten months. '''tAD''' (talk) 01:06, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
2013 El Reno tornado[edit]
Pending changes: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent changing of EF3 to the incorrect EF5 by numerous IPs and new editors. This has been going on off and on for quite sometime. Don't think semi-protection is necessary; PC should do as it is just this one issue. United States Man (talk) 01:14, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
Game of Thrones[edit]
Temporary Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism from IP users. It has not stopped and it keeps happening, every day for years. It takes time to keep undoing vandalism edits from IP users. Game of Thrones is the most succesfull and popular show today and of all time. It needs a semi-protection. User:AffeL (talk)

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. Editor is sabotaging the current RfC by adding content to article in question at the RfC while refusing to discuss and follow RfC protocol. Edit warring report also filed. Request that if FPP activated, the version of the article as it was at the time the RfC was filed be restored. -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 02:25, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. An anonymous IP editor has been removing sourced information and its sources and replacing it with wording that is ether: contradictory to the sources he removed; is highly favorable to one particular beligerent over the others (ISIL in this case); or is per a source that is unverifiable/questionable (pro-ISIL). The IP editor has been reverted by me and several other editors on numerous occasions, but still he keeps continuing to make the edits which are highly POV in nature. PS the Manbij article had also several other IP POV-pushers that have been regularly reverted by other editors. EkoGraf (talk) 05:02, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
WQUN[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Continued image removal vandalism by an IPv6 anon user. Warnings have been issued but to no avail. Requesting temporary semi-protection and a block (or range block) of the IP user. Neutralhomer • Talk • 05:24 on June 30, 2016 (UTC) 05:24, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
Proposed Book of Mormon geographical setting[edit]
Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – We have either one person with 2 IP addresses or meat puppetry, can this be protected? . Doug Weller talk 05:24, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "View history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: I spoke to Dennis Brown about the current TE protection level, which is not actually doing anything because the title matches an entry on the blacklist already (before I realized he voluntarily gave up his sysop bit). — Andy W. (talk · ctb) 00:43, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in Category:Wikipedia fully-protected edit requests, Category:Wikipedia template-protected edit requests, Category:Wikipedia extended-confirmed-protected edit requests, Category:Wikipedia semi-protected edit requests respectively. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{request edit}}
template should be used. This places the page under Category:Requested edits. - Page move requests should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be locked. Please make requests as long as you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Handled requests[edit]
