Commission Summary

New York City greatly values its status of having the largest diplomatic and consular community in the world. The New York City Commission for the United Nations, Consular Corps and Protocol serves as the City's primary liaison between the Offices of the Mayor and the United Nations, 191 Permanent Missions, and 105 Consulates. As an integral part of the Mayor's Office, the Commission facilitates positive relations among members of the international community, local, state, and federal governments, and New Yorkers.

Under Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's leadership, we continue to build a dynamic resource that provides information, assistance, and service to the international community, businesses, and residents of New York City.

THE COMMISSION:

Advises City agencies on diplomatic and consular matters.

Coordinates meetings for heads of state/government, ministers, diplomats, consular officers, and other foreign government officials/delegations.

Promotes the role of the City as both the headquarters of the United Nations and as a main center of foreign consulates.

Responds promptly to diplomatic and international incidents that may impact the City of New York.

Provides pro bono advice, mediation services, and general guidance to the diplomatic and consular community.

Assists with scheduling and briefings for courtesy visits at City Hall and representation at special events.

Works with the consular corps and the international business community to enhance the City's role as "Capital of the World" - a center for diplomacy, culture, and commerce.
