Blackfoot is a hamlet in east-central Alberta, Canada, within the County of Vermilion River.[1] It is located 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) north of Highway 16, approximately 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) west of Lloydminster.

History[edit]

The first post office opened in 1905 as "Blackfoot Hills" and changed to just "Blackfoot" in 1909.[2] Telephone service was established in 1907.[3]

Demographics[edit]

The County of Vermilion River's 2015 municipal census counted a population of 420 in Blackfoot.[4]

As a designated place in the 2011 Census, Blackfoot had a population of 269 living in 107 of its 111 total dwellings, a 69.2% change from its 2006 population of 159. With a land area of 0.88 km2 (0.34 sq mi), it had a population density of 305.7/km2 (792/sq mi) in 2011.[5]
