What are Human Rights?

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

Wherever we live,
whatever our age, gender or nationality,
regardless of colour, religion, language, ethnic background or any other status,
we are all entitled to human rights. Always.
Our rights and freedoms may be expressed in many ways — on paper, in our traditions, and in how we choose to live our lives and treat others. We have a responsibility to respect each other’s rights and to protect fundamental freedoms.
Let’s take this human rights journey. Together.
Inspired by the United Nations’ definition of human rights

In this section, we offer insight into the complex meaning of “human rights,” along with an interactive map and some virtual exhibits featuring key people and events.
