When are your school programs available?
All teachers are invited to book a school program now! School Programs for the 2015-16 school year will run until June 30, 2016. All requests are handled on a first come, first served basis. For all inquiries, please email us at education [at] humanrights.ca or call us at 204-289-2253.

How far in advance do I need to book a school program or tour?
It is best to book as early as possible. Call us at 204-289-2253 or email us at education [at] humanrights.ca to inquire as to available dates and times. All bookings are made on a first come, first served basis with the exception of the Fair Share advance registration for schools which allows you to register in May and June every year for school programs taking place in the following school year.

Do I need to make a booking if my school group is self-guiding in the Museum?
Yes! All schools and organized groups must book in advance. Please note that self-guiding visits are open only to high school students because certain exhibits may not be appropriate for visitors under 12 years of age

Can we visit the Museum on our own before or after our school program?
Yes, your $5 school booking per student includes your program plus one hour on your own in the Museum to visit the Israel Asper Tower of Hope, other galleries or the Museum Boutique.  However, certain exhibits may not be appropriate for visitors under 12 years of age. 

I want to bring several classes to the Museum at the same time. Can this be accommodated?
The Museum can accommodate several groups of students at the same time. The maximum number of students per program is 36 as there are capacity limitations around certain exhibits and interactives. If the group is larger, we recommend that you call us to discuss options (e.g. staggered start times, self-guided tours, switching morning and afternoon groups, etc.). Can I take my school group to the Israel Asper Tower of Hope? 
Yes, you can take your group to the Israel Asper Tower of Hope. Your $5 school booking per student includes your program plus one hour on your own in the Museum to visit the Israel Asper Tower of Hope, other galleries or the Museum Boutique. For safety reasons, school groups must be accompanied by adult supervisors in the Tower. Please note that the Tower has limited capacity, so access is not guaranteed at busy times.

Is parking available for school buses?
Yes, school bus parking is available in the Waterfront Lot across the street from the Museum. Buses may use the south side of the lot ONLY. The cost is $5 per hour or $50 for 24 hours. The Winnipeg Parking Authority asks for credit card payment in advance, by phone. They will email you the receipt the day of your trip. How many school visits does my school division or school have under Fair Share? 
Please ask your superintendent or school leader about whether you can have a Fair Share visit. Fair Share is an advance registration system for schools. Communications about Fair Share are sent to Superintendents and school leaders in March every year and must be booked in May and June for programs taking place in the following school year. Please note that a Fair Share spot is not required to book a school visit. You can book your school visit today. All requests are handled on a first come, first served basis. Fair Share only allows you to book early bird spots for the following school year. 

How are the advance registration Fair Share spots assigned?
Fair Share spots are assigned based on student population and other equity measures, to ensure that small schools and rural student populations across the country have an equal opportunity to visit the Museum. Learn more about Fair Share.

How much notice do I have to give to cancel or reschedule?
Please let us know as soon as possible and see our Cancellation Policy. When a school group visit is cancelled due to serious bad weather conditions, such as days when schools are closed or buses are cancelled, there will be no charge, but we ask that teachers notify us, in any case, at 204-289-2253 by phone or email at education [at] humanrights.ca.

I have not received a booking confirmation. What do I do?
Contact us as soon as possible by email at education [at] humanrights.ca or by phone at 204-289-2253. Your program is confirmed only upon receipt of a signed booking confirmation and contract. If you have not signed a School Booking Contract, your program is not confirmed.

What is the cost for adult supervisors?
There is free admission for all required adult supervision. This includes the teacher, required adult student-helpers, and dedicated helpers for students with special needs who are accompanying students on a visit to the Museum. The ratio of required adult supervisors to students will vary based on the grade level and other accommodations. Any additional people accompanying the group will be charged at general admission rates.

What can I expect my students to see at the Museum? I’m concerned about difficult content they may be exposed to during a visit.
All of the Museum's school programs are designed to be age-appropriate and curriculum-related. Teachers, school administrators and other educators are encouraged to register for our Educators’ Open House the evening of Friday October 23 and all day Saturday October 24, 2015 to learn more about the Museum before they bring their students for a visit.

School programs for students aged 13 and under are routed through the Museum to avoid encountering difficult content. We have taken special care to provide rich program descriptions that tell you what students will learn, experience, participate in and discuss while at the Museum. Our goal is to provide teachers with enough information on program content to make the decision as to whether or not the Museum visit is suitable for their students.
