Natural Resources Canada researchers study entomology in order to minimize the damage from forest pests to protect Canada’s forests. This includes studying various aspects of biology, population dynamics and management options.
Outbreaks of native insects can be part of a natural, recurring process within an ecosystem. However, when outbreaks of native insects are so severe that they destroy or damage large areas of forests, these insects can become pests. Invasive species also pose threats to forest ecosystems when populations go unchecked.
