International Aid Transparency Initiative

The International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) has developed an international standard that makes information about aid spending easier to access, use and understand.

In November 2014, the Department of Finance announced that it would start publishing data under the standard, and in July 2015 the Department published its IATI Implementation Schedule. This page contains that data.

To facilitate analysis and avoid mistakes in aggregating data, the files are being made available in bilingual format. Where possible, codes, which can be cross-referenced to the IATI Codelists, are used instead of words. For example, the International Organization for Standardization country code is used rather than the country name.

Two data sets are presented: an Activity File, which contains project information, and an Organization File, which contains departmental information.

Activity File

The IATI Standard refers to “activities”, which for the Department of Finance Canada means international assistance payments. This file contains payments made since January 2014.

Organization File

This file contains the annual forward planning budget, and links to key documents such as reports published on the websites of the Department of Finance and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development.
