What We Offer

A professional work environment

Our professionals are highly qualified in their fields and bring a rich mix of academic disciplines and experience to the work of the Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG). You will be joining a team of talented professionals tasked with carrying out a broad range of assignments covering the full spectrum of federal programs and services offered across the country. All of our audit professionals have post-graduate degrees or a bachelor’s degree and professional designation, and many have additional credentials. This background contributes to the credibility of our organization and work.

Our success depends on our people, and we value strong communication and people skills.

Our organization is internationally recognized and respected for its innovative and leading-edge approach to government auditing. We provide our employees with the best tools and latest technology to do their work.

Excellent working conditions

We promote a reasonable work-life balance for all of our employees. We believe that supporting your personal needs and goals will contribute to a better and more productive workplace.

Flexible work arrangements

We offer a flexible work environment that allows for flex-time, compressed workweeks, part-time arrangements and telework. When additional hours of work are required, we offer compensatory time off or, in some cases, paid overtime.

Family-friendly arrangements

Generous arrangements exist for family-related absences such as:

  • birth or adoption of a child
  • marriage leave
  • care of sick family members
  • bereavement leave

There are also provisions to cover maternity and parental leave, care and nurturing of pre-school age children, long-term care of a parent, and other personal needs. For example, parents are provided with 50 weeks of combined maternity/parental benefits at 93% of salary on the birth or adoption of a child.

Diversity

The OAG is committed to reflecting the rich diversity of the Canadian society.

We take pride in our workplace in which individuals with varied backgrounds and talents are respected and valued. We value diversity in our workforce and we encourage members of the designated groups—women, visible minorities, Aboriginal persons and persons with disabilities—to apply and self-identify on their application.

We are committed to reflecting employment equity ideals in both our workforce and workplace. We have policies and programs that promote a work environment that is free of barriers, with the goal of achieving a fully representative workplace where all feel valued for who they are and what they bring to the workplace.

We strive to eliminate barriers to employment of under-represented groups during the application and selection processes. Tests are available in alternative formats, test duration may be adjusted to suit special needs, or specific technological aids can be provided.

Employee assistance program (EAP)

The EAP is a voluntary, confidential counselling and referral service for employees and their families.

Awards and Recognition

At the OAG, we believe that employees should be recognized for demonstrating the values we promote. The “Bravo Program” was designed to recognize employees in various ways and in a timely fashion. The range of awards made available through this program recognizes the diversity of employees and their contribution. The program provides for both formal and informal recognition of individual as well as collaborative efforts.

Comprehensive benefits

Vacation

We offer our employees a very generous package of health, insurance and leave benefits, as well as an excellent pension plan.

New employees receive three weeks of annual vacation. This increases to four weeks after eight years. Management receives four weeks of vacation leave on appointment.

In addition to vacation leave, employees are entitled to one personal day and one day of volunteer leave every year.

After two years of service, employees in the AP and ASG groups receive a one-time entitlement of one week of additional leave.

Health and dental plans

Our health plan covers 80% of most medical expenses, including prescription drugs and vision care. Our dental plan pays 90% of routine treatments and 50% for other services such as orthodontics.

Sick leave

Employees earn monthly sick leave credits to a total of 15 days per year.

Pension plan

Employees of the Office of the Auditor General of Canada participate in an excellent pension plan. Benefits depend on age and years of service at retirement. Pension benefits are also indexed for increases to the consumer price index.
