About the Commissioner

Joe Friday was appointed Public Sector Integrity Commissioner of Canada on March 27, 2015. He has been the Deputy Commissioner at the Office of the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner since 2011 and General Counsel prior to that since 2008.

Mr. Friday began his career in the Public Service in 1992 as Legal Counsel to the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. From 1994 to 2001, he served as Legal Counsel and then as Acting General Counsel, Dispute Resolution Services with the Department of Justice. In 2001, he took on the role of National Coordinator, Legal Excellence Program at the Department of Justice, a position he held until 2007, followed by the position of General Counsel, Dispute Prevention and Resolution Services. 

Prior to joining the Public Service, Mr. Friday practiced law with Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt, LLP. Before beginning his law career, he was a media analyst with Mediaday Inc. 

Mr. Friday holds an Honours Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University and a LL.B. from the University of Ottawa.
