Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) has partnered with the RCMP for more than 60 years to help serving and retired, regular and civilian members and their families. While the RCMP is responsible for the programs and services provided to its members, VAC administers some of these programs on its behalf. This includes the disability pension and health benefit programs for a service-related injury or illness.
Disability Pension: a monthly tax-free payment to compensate for permanent disability caused by a service-related injury or disease. There must be evidence on your records that the disability is related to RCMP service. Whether serving or retired, you can apply for a disability pension. Additional pension amounts may be paid to qualified dependants such as a spouse, common-law partner and/or children.
If you qualify for a disability pension you may be eligible for other benefits:
If you are a serving RM, health benefits related to a pensioned condition are provided by the RCMP.
Case Management: disability pensioners may be offered one-on-one help to identify needs and provide a single point of entry to help get the services you may need.
Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinics: specialize in treating OSIs for Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces members, and former RCMP members across Canada. Serving RMs are referred by RCMP Health Services.
Veterans Affairs 24 hour crisis help line: free, confidential professional short term counselling services to support retired members and their families dealing with personal problems that affect their quality of life.
It’s never too early or too late to contact VAC.
