Aid Transparency

The Government of Canada is committed to increasing transparency and accountability. It regularly reports to Canadians on its international development plans, activities and results throughout the year. The former Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) was one of the first donor agencies to offer a project database online when the Project Browser was created in 2004. Global Affairs Canada scored 76.3%, in the 2016 Aid Transparency Index, placing it in the good category and 4th among bilateral donor agencies. Its overall score has increased by over 30 percentage points since 2012.

The ranking is produced by Publish What You Fund for their annual Aid Transparency Index Report which examines various criteria, most importantly Global Affairs Canada’s publication of machine-readable data files compatible with the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) standard.
