Questions about Permanent Resident Visa applications from within Canada and the U.S. Only

  • We will only respond to enquiries regarding Permanent Resident Visa applications currently being processed at CPC-O.

Note: As of January 1, 2015, to apply for permanent residence under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trade (FST) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) programs, you must first create an Express Entry profile and be invited to apply.

  • Use this CPC-CTD-Ottawa@cic.gc.ca e-mail to ask CPC-O about a Permanent Resident case.
  • After you have sent your e-mail, you will receive an automatic message acknowledging that we have received your question. This message will be sent to the e-mail address that you entered. If you do not receive this message within 24 hours, then it may be in your junk mail box or you may have entered your email address incorrectly.

Frequently asked questions

1. What is the status of my application?

Due to the high volume of mail received, it is not possible to provide routine status updates. However, you will be contacted if more information is required to continue the processing of your application.

You can e-mail CIC at (CPC-CTD-Ottawa@cic.gc.ca) if any of your personal information changes such as a:

  • change in your marital status,
  • birth or death in your family, or
  • change in your mailing, residential or e-mail address if you reside outside of Canada.

If you reside in Canada, you must use CIC’s online form to change your contact information.

2. I need to change my personal information or my mailing address. What do I do?

Please e-mail us (CPC-CTD-Ottawa@cic.gc.ca) in any of the following cases:

  • change in your marital status,
  • birth or death in your family, or
  • change in your mailing, residential or e-mail address if you reside outside of Canada.

If you reside in Canada, you must use CIC’s online form to change your contact information.

It is up to you to keep your contact information up-to-date. If you do not keep your contact information up-to-date, it could delay the processing of your application. Please quote your complete application number (letter “E”, “EP” or “F” ) followed by eight or nine digits in all correspondence with our office.

3. I have a question about medical exams. What do I do?

If a member of your family is in a different country, please forward them the medical form. Find the list of doctors in your country that have been designated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and are approved to do medical exams, (panel physicians).
