There’s so much to discover

The Mackenzie King Estate is a precious Canadian legacy. This 231-hectare (2.31 km2) country estate belonged to Canada’s 10th and longest-serving prime minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King. After spending almost 50 years (1903–1950) beautifying and expanding his property, when he died, King bequeathed his beloved estate to all Canadians. It now forms part of Gatineau Park, Canada’s Capital conservation park, which is managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC).

The Estate is a special place where you can spend the whole day enjoying nature. When you step onto the Estate, you are instantly transported back to the early 1900s. Enjoy a quiet walk on the wooded paths, or listen to the story of the Estate as told by one of our guide-interpreters. The faithfully restored cottages are open to visitors, and offer interactive exhibits for the whole family. Take a relaxing stroll through the magnificent gardens and historical ruins, or sit back and enjoy a cup of tea on the main veranda of the Mackenzie King Tearoom.
