Get urgent, express, weekend and statutory holiday emergency passport service in Canada

Urgent and express service in Canada

We offer urgent and express passport services at certain locations in Canada. To find out if you qualify for these services, you must apply in person. Proof of travel is required for emergency and urgent service. You may also be required to provide proof of upcoming travel for express service.

Proof of travel can be, but is not limited to:

  • an airline, bus or train ticket, or
  • a travel itinerary showing proof of payment.

Depending on the reason for your travel, you may be required to show further proof that your situation is urgent. For example, proof of urgency could be a medical note regarding the illness or death of a family member.

For urgent or express service, you will be required to pay an additional service fee on top of the regular passport fee.

The additional fees for urgent and express service are as follows:

  • urgent pick-up (by the end of the next business day): CAN$110
  • express pick-up within 2-9 business days: CAN$50

The date of your pick-up will be determined by the Passport Officer.

Emergency help in Canada on a weekend and statutory holiday

If you require your passport over the weekend or on a statutory holiday, call 1-800-567-6868. This service is for emergencies only if imminent travel over the weekend or statutory holidays is critical.

If you meet the requirements, you must ensure that all of your required documents (application form, passport photos, valid proof of travel showing you are travelling before the end of the next business day, etc.) are ready. A passport issued over the weekend or on statutory holidays will cost $335 in addition to the regular passport service fee. For example, if you are requesting a 10-year passport, the fee will be $160 plus $335, totaling $495. Any additional service fees required, such as the service fee for replacing a lost or stolen passport, will be added to this total.

Additional applications submitted by members of the same family who are applying together will not be charged the service fee for weekend and statutory holiday service, but will be charged the service fee for urgent service in addition to the passport fee. Please note that these are service fees only: they do not guarantee issuance of a passport if security concerns are identified during processing of the application.
