The CNSC recruits science and engineering professionals in various fields for licensing, compliance (inspections) and technical assessment activities including: nuclear reactors, uranium mines, radiation health and radiation protection, environment, waste management, physics and fuels, engineering design and assessment, reactor behaviour, systems engineering and reactor thermal hydraulics, safety management, transportation, nuclear substances, human factors, quality management, and emergency management.

The CNSC recruits corporate professionals including, but not limited to, the following fields: information management, information technology, finance, audit and ethics, strategic planning, communications, human resources, and security.
