OPC actions and decisions
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) is responsible for overseeing compliance with the Privacy Act and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), along with some aspects of Canada's anti-spam law (CASL).
As part of this work, the OPC conducts investigations and audits of personal information-handling practices and engages in research into privacy issues. The Privacy Commissioner is an Officer of Parliament, reporting directly to the House of Commons and the Senate, and frequently appears before Parliament to provide analysis and views on proposed legislation and issues related to privacy.
