Public Consultations
The Department of Justice is committed to encouraging the participation of all Canadians and justice-sector stakeholders in the development of law, policy and programs, as well as in identifying emerging trends in law and policy. To this end, the Department uses many different types of public participation activities, ensuring that a broad cross-section of views are taken into consideration when developing law and policy. In the past, the results of public participation activities have influenced the development of policy on youth justice, crime prevention and the rights of victims of crime, as well as law reform and policy.

| February 1st, 2017 to May 1st, 2017 | Fourth series of proposals to harmonize federal law with the civil law of the Province of Quebec | The Bijuralism Group of the Legislative Services Branch, Public Law and Legislative Services Sector, on behalf of the Department of Justice Canada, is seeking comments regarding the Fourth series of proposals to harmonize federal law with the civil law of the Province of Quebec and to amend certain Acts in order to ensure that each language version takes into account the common law and the civil law. This fourth series of harmonization proposals was prepared in co-operation with the departments responsible for the selected Acts. As well, some stakeholders have been consulted on preliminary proposals. The comments received will be considered in preparing a potential fourth harmonization bill. |
