Equality

Under the Canadian Human Rights Act you are required to ensure that all who are affected by your organization are treated equally regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or any of the other 11 grounds of discrimination listed in the Canadian Human Rights Act.

This means that you are required to ensure that your organization’s policies and practices are fair and equitable, and that they help prevent discrimination, harassment or retaliation towards individuals, or groups of individuals who work for your organization or receive services from it.

All employers are responsible for providing a workplace free from harassment. Employers are obligated to take appropriate action against any employee who harasses someone. Otherwise, an employer can be held responsible for harassment committed by their employees.
