Park Status

Kusawa Territorial Park has not yet been formally established under the Yukon Parks and Land Certainty Act. The area within the park boundaries identified through the land claim agreements has been permanently withdrawn from mineral and oil and gas exploration, however.

The Draft Management Plan was jointly reviewed by the Yukon government and the Carcross/Tagish, Champagne and Aishihik, and Kwanlin Dün First Nations. Visit the Kusawa Park Steering Committee website to view results of the public and First Nation consultations and information about the park planning process.

A Steering Committee forwarded the recommended management plan to respective governments in January 2016.

Park Objectives

The objectives of Kusawa Territorial Park, as identified in the Final Agreements include:

Facilities

Two Yukon government campgrounds are located within the park at kilometres 15 and 23 from the Alaska Highway along the Takhini River Road.
