WHITEHORSE—A new Learning Together pre-school drop-in program has opened at the Dusk'a Head Start and Family Learning Centre in Whitehorse.
“We are pleased to work with Kwanlin Dün First Nation to expand the Learning Together Program to the Dusk'a Head Start and Family Learning Centre,” Minister of Education Elaine Taylor said. “This unique partnership is an example of what can be achieved when we work together in support of Yukon learners.”
The Learning Together program at Dusk’a is for children aged three to five years. Participants are accompanied by their parents or caregivers. Through activities such as circle time, reading together and play, parents and caregivers make connections within the community, learn about resources and services for children in their area and learn with their children.
“Offering the Learning Together program through Dusk’a is helping to address some of the barriers that families experience in accessing early childhood learning programming,” Chief Doris Bill said. “Through this program, we can now provide early learning and pre-Kindergarten readiness programming for children who are not already participating in this type of program. It’s a win-win for families and for educators.”
The new Learning Together program at Dusk'a Head Start and Family Learning Centre operates three days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Other Learning Together programs offered in the territory include those at Selkirk Elementary School and Hidden Valley School in Whitehorse, and at Eliza Van Bibber School in Pelly Crossing.
