Yukon’s mineral potential showcased at mining industry meeting

WHITEHORSE—Premier Darrell Pasloski and three ministers will attend the Mineral Exploration Roundup in Vancouver next week to meet with industry representatives and showcase Yukon’s commitment to the mineral sector.

The premier will be joined by Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources and Minister of Highways and Public Works Scott Kent, Minister of Economic Development Stacey Hassard, and Minister of Environment Wade Istchenko.

“Roundup provides us the opportunity to network with industry leaders and encourage exploration and investment in Yukon so we will be well-positioned when the inevitable upturn in the resource markets occurs,” Pasloski said.

The premier and ministers will also speak at the Cambridge House Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, and Minister Kent will join a panel to discuss resources in the Pacific Northwest.

“We are taking a long-term, comprehensive view on the key factors affecting mineral development in Yukon, including enhancing infrastructure that is vital to the growth of our economy,” Kent said. “Our public highway network is strong, but we’re committed to improving our roads to resources and areas driving economic growth.”

Yukon’s attendance at Roundup is also an opportunity for the Yukon Geological Survey to present their cutting-edge geoscience and mineral resource expertise to industry and to their peers. YGS continues to provide framework information on Yukon’s geology and mineral potential, supporting mineral exploration and land and resource management.

“Yukon has exceptional potential for future resource development and we will continue to focus on laying the foundations for a strong economy,” Hassard said. “We are tackling challenges head-on and working to remain competitive.”

In 2015, Roundup had 6,609 registrants from 36 countries. This year Roundup runs from January 25 to 28, and the Cambridge House investment conference will be held on January 24 and 25.
