New deputy minister for Energy, Mines and Resources

WHITEHORSE—Premier Pasloski today announced the appointment of George Ross as new deputy minister for the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources.

“Mr. Ross brings to the Yukon government years of senior management experience with the Government of Ontario. We will benefit greatly from his experience and expertise,” Pasloski said. “He has a strong track record of public sector leadership.”

With over 30 years of senior executive experience in the public sector, Ross has an extensive background in policy development, research and innovation, economic development and building positive relationships between government, industry and stakeholders. For the past six years, Ross has held the position of deputy minister, first with the Ministry of Research and Innovation and with the Ministry of Consumer Services and now with the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.

Ross is a past president of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada and is a member of the board of the Centre of Excellence in Mining Innovation. In 2012, he received the Public Service Award from Life Sciences Ontario.

Mr. Ross holds a bachelor of environmental studies from the University of Waterloo and is a certified board director with ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Ross will take responsibility for the position on October 1, 2014.

Premier Pasloski thanks Shirley Abercrombie who has been acting deputy minister of the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources.
