Yukon government and YuWIN sign new funding agreement

WHITEHORSE—The Government of Yukon and the Yukon Work Information Network (YuWIN) have signed a new funding agreement that positions YuWIN to continue to support Yukon’s business community.

“YuWIN has developed a strong relationship with Yukon businesses through their years of supporting the territory’s labour market,” Minister of Education Doug Graham said. “In its new role, the organization will leverage and build upon these relationships to ensure Yukon employers understand and can take advantage of programs and services that support the development of their businesses.”

YuWIN will now operate in a liaison role between the Department of Education and local employers. It will continue to support the local business community by being a central source of information and application support for employers looking to access labour markets programs and services. It will also assist Yukon job seekers in engaging employers during a job search and facilitate access to assistance available for the hiring of under-represented groups.

In addition, YuWIN will help Yukon employers transition from using the YuWIN job board to using the modernized Canada Job Bank. To ensure a smooth transition, the Department of Education will continue to support YuWIN’s job board until March 31, 2017 at which point all employers should have transitioned to using the Canada Job Bank.

“YuWIN is pleased we have reached an agreement and looks forward to helping Yukon businesses take advantage of the labour market programs and services available to them,” YuWIN board chair Bruno Bourdache said. “We look forward to evaluating and evolving the future role of YuWIN’s Job Board and supporting our clients in the transition to the Canada Job Bank.”

The new agreement is in effect as of April 1 and will continue until March 31, 2018.
