National Aboriginal Day

The Government of Yukon conducted a survey last summer that asked Yukoners their thoughts on making National Aboriginal Day, June 21, a statutory holiday.

Burn permits

Between April 1 and September 30, you need a valid permit to light an open fire.

Burning permits are required for: 

  • Burning grass, debris or brush
  • Lighting an open fire for any purpose other than a campfire (more info on campfire safety)
  • Burning on all public and private lands
Contact your local issuing office to obtain a burn permit.

These permits are for outside Whitehorse city limits. If you plan to burn within the city limits, contact the City of Whitehorse.


Spring litter clean-up

Eligible non-profit organizations can now apply to help keep Yukon highways clean and give back to their communities by participating in Highways & Public Work’s Annual Spring Litter Campaign.

Deadline: April 30, 2017

Upon completion, your organization will receive a $250 voucher from the Department of Highways and Public Works.
