Business Environment
Argentina is one of the largest economies in Latin America with a GDP of more than USD 607 Billion in 2015. Argentina is rich in natural resources and is a major food producer. For many years, Argentina's domestic economy has been subject to government intervention, trade protectionism and foreign-exchange controls; however, in Dec 2015, President Macri became the country’s first center-right, market friendly president to win a fair election in modern history. Since his election into office, President Macri has taken significant steps to liberalize the Argentine economy by lifting capital controls, floating the peso, negotiating debt payments with holdout bond creditors and removing export controls. The structural deficit in infrastructure and energy started to be addressed by this Government, with several power projects already awarded to reduce the circa 3GW energy deficit and a program to increase the percentage of renewables in the country’s matrix.
