Hebron

Hebron is an offshore heavy oilfield estimated to contain more than 700 million barrels of recoverable oil. The oilfield was discovered in 1980 and is located in the Jeanne d ‘Arc Basin, 350 kilometres southeast of St John’s Newfoundland. The Hebron co-venturers are ExxonMobil Canada Properties (36%), Chevron Canada Limited (26.7%), Suncor Energy Inc. (22.75) Statoil Canada (9.7%) and Nalcor Energy (4.9%). ExxonMobil Canada Properties is the operator of the Hebron project.

The project involves drilling in approximately 92 meters of water and construction of a gravity base offshore production and storage platform. The base is designed to store approximately 1.2 million barrels crude oil and will support an integrated topsides deck that includes a living quarters and facilities to perform drilling and production. The Hebron project is expected to produce first oil around the end of 2017.

Maritime Link

The Maritime Link Project is part of a larger strategy to address the growing demand for more renewable energy. It will enable the transmission of clean, renewable and reliable electricity from Newfoundland and Labrador to Nova Scotia and beyond.

The Maritime Link will be owned and operated by NSP Maritime Link Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Emera Newfoundland & Labrador.

The Project involves building 170 kilometres of subsea HVdc (high-voltage direct current) transmission cables under the Cabot Strait, overhead transmission in Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia.

For Nova Scotia, the Maritime Link will create more energy options and reduce dependency on coal-fired generation.

For Newfoundland and Labrador, the Maritime Link will connect the island of Newfoundland to the North American grid for the first time in history.

Muskrat Falls

The development of Muskrat Falls represents the first phase of Nalcor Energy’s Lower Churchill Project. The project includes:

  • Muskrat Falls Generating Facility
    An 824 megawatt (MW) hydroelectric generating facility consisting of two dams and a powerhouse at Muskrat Falls.
  • Labrador-Island Transmission Link and Transmission Assets
  • Labrador-Island Link
    A 60m wide, 1,100km High Voltage direct current (HVdc) transmission line from Muskrat Falls in Labrador to Soldiers Pond on the Avalon Peninsula.
  • Strait of Belle Isle Marine Cable Crossing
    A 35km subsea cable crossing from Forteau Point, Labrador across the Strait of Belle Isle to Shoal Cove, on the Island.
  • Labrador Transmission Assets
    250km High Voltage alternating current (HVac) transmission lines between Muskrat Falls and Churchill Falls.

White Rose Extension Project

The White Rose field is located 350km east of Newfoundland, approximately 50km from both the Terra Nova and Hibernia fields. It is operated by Husky Energy (68.875%) on behalf of Petro-Canada (26.125%) while the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, through the province’s energy corporation, holds an equity stake of 5%. Total capital costs were about $2.35 billion CAN.

Husky Energy is developing the West White Rose extension with a concrete gravity structure, which is being constructed in Argentia, Newfoundland and Labrador. The wellhead platform will serve as a fixed drilling rig and will consist of a concrete gravity structure and topsides, which will include drilling facilities, wellheads and support services such as accommodations, utilities, a flare boom and helideck.
