The task of interpreters is to interpret orally all dialogue and, in some cases, short documents submitted during, before, or after the proceedings. This includes interpreting both from the language of the person who is the subject of the proceedings into English or French, and from English or French into the language of that person, using consecutive interpretation. Whatever is said in one language should be interpreted faithfully and accurately into the other language using the exact equivalent meaning and structure.
Interpreters provide interpretation services as independent contractors when needed by the IRB. Interpreters must sign the Code of Conduct for Interpreters prior to being contracted.

The IRB is currently looking for interpreters (contractual, occasional or on call work) at its Montreal and Toronto offices.
Eligibility criteria
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent;
- Professional references (minimum of two);
- Compliance with the rules that are set out in the Code of Conduct for Interpreters.
