7 Clarence Street Redevelopment

The design concept for the new building is the result of consultations with community stakeholders, heritage experts and other interested parties in the historic ByWard Market area.

Features of the new two-storey building:

• Similar footprint to the previous building
• In keeping with the heritage character of the historic ByWard Market area
• Aim to encourage vibrancy and activity in the Tin House Court area
• Constructed using new materials, as well as materials salvaged from the previous building
• Universally accessible

During construction, the Tin House Court will be closed. The NCC will work to ensure that the construction has a minimal impact on local residents and businesses at all times.

When the work is complete, the new building will become the NCC’s International Pavilion, which will be open to the public for the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The pavilion will feature seven international diplomatic missions in Canada, presenting public events and cultural programs.

Major restoration and upgrading work on heritage buildings located between 445 and 465 Sussex Drive, at 13–15 Clarence Street, and in the Tin House Court will also be ongoing while the construction is being undertaken at 7 Clarence Street.

Work schedule

Construction start: April 18, 2016
Construction completion: Spring 2017
