Privacy

The Government of Canada and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) are committed to respecting individuals’ privacy when they visit ACOA on-line.

The ACOA website does not automatically gather any personal information from you, such as your name, phone number or email address. We would only obtain this type of information if you supply it to us or if you register as a client on ACOA Direct, our web application that allows clients to do business with ACOA securely over the Internet. Your personal information is usually not disclosed to anyone except ACOA personnel who need the information to respond to your enquiry. Any further disclosure would be in accordance with section 8 of the Privacy Act. All personal information created, held or collected by ACOA is protected under the Privacy Act.

Unless specifically noted otherwise, it is not recommended that you send sensitive personal information electronically.

ACOA does use software programs that track statistics from your on-line visit to help us understand how visitors use our website and to protect the security and validity of official information. When you visit our website, these programs automatically receive and temporarily store anonymous statistical information supplied by your web browser, such as the Internet Protocol address of the computer you used to contact our website; the type of browser and domain name you used; the date and time you visited; the pages you visited; and the documents you downloaded. In most circumstances, this is anonymous statistical data and we make no attempt to link this data with the identity of individuals visiting our site.

We also use Google Analytics, an on-line web analytics service that helps measure traffic patterns to, from and within our public websites. This tool uses both “session” cookies and “persistent” cookies to track use of this web site. The information generated by the cookies about your use of the website is transmitted to Google, although no personal, identifying information is recorded or provided to Google. The anonymous information is compiled by Google in a statistical report which ACOA uses to assess and improve the website. The data and statistical reports are used only to help us make our site more useful to visitors and are made available only to Web managers and other designated staff who require this information to perform their duties. We do not include the Google Analytics measurement tool on any secure sites.

If you wish, you may opt out of being tracked by Google Analytics by disabling or refusing the cookies.
