Their Excellencies are calling upon all Canadians to answer the call to service and join them in the building of a smarter, more caring nation.
The paths to a smart and caring nation can be summed up in two Latin words featured in the Governor General’s coat of arms: Contemplare Meliora—to envision a better world. A smart nation learns from the past, embraces the future and looks to the world with confidence and respect, while a caring nation recognizes that the measure of any society’s success lies in its ability to help others, particularly the vulnerable and marginalized among us.
