Carmen Vierula

Chief Financial Officer

Carmen Vierula was appointed Chief Financial Officer and Chief of the Financial Services Department, effective August 2014. In this capacity, she is responsible for developing and directing the implementation of the financial framework of the Bank. She is also a member of the Management Council.

Ms. Vierula returned to the Bank at the time of her appointment following a two-year assignment as Chief of Audit Services at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York. There, working within the Office of Internal Oversight Services, her portfolio included the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund, the New York Secretariat Capital Master Plan, several headquarters operations, economic commissions and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Ms. Vierula first joined the Bank in 2002. In 2008, she was appointed Chief Internal Auditor, where she led the evaluation of the Bank’s risk management, control and governance processes. She held this position until beginning at the UN in September 2012.

Ms. Vierula brings to her current role more than 25 years of experience in financial, operational and information technology assurance and advisory services, in both the public and private sectors. This includes internal audit strategic leadership in the UN, central banking and higher education, as well as public accounting services with chartered professional accounting firms in Calgary, Guelph and Ottawa.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Ms. Vierula received an honours bachelor of commerce degree from Laurentian University in 1982. She also holds chartered professional accountant and certified internal auditor designations.
