Nada Semaan, Associate Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

On October 31, 2016 Nada Semaan became Associate Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).

Before joining AAFC, Nada served as Executive Vice-President of the Canada Border Services Agency since May 2014. Nada also held the position of Associate Deputy Minister at Canadian Heritage from July 2011 to May 2014, Assistant Secretary, Economic Sector at the Treasury Board Secretariat from 2008 to 2011, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Farm Financial Programs Branch at AAFC from 2005 to 2008.

Nada began her public service career at Human Resources and Skills Development Canada in 1990 where she held a number of positions including Assistant Deputy Minister, Systems, Senior Director General, Systems Transformation and Director General, Program Policy and Strategic Direction at Income Security Programs, where she also played a key role in the conception, design and implementation of the Service Canada initiative.

Before joining the federal government, Nada worked in the technology sector at Cognos Incorporated and in psychiatric research at the Ottawa General Hospital. She is published in the field of psychological research and holds an honours bachelor degree in psychology, cum laude, from the University of Ottawa.

Nada is the Deputy Minister University Champion for the University of Ottawa.
