About Canada.ca
The Government of Canada is making it easier for Canadians to find and access government information and services online through its central website, Canada.ca. The website is the single entry point for all government information and services available online and is accessible using any device with an Internet connection, including tablets or mobile phones.
Why change?
The Government of Canada created Canada.ca as part of its ongoing commitment to better serve Canadians. In response to the 2013 Budget, the site exists to give the public easier and faster access to the information and services they need, using any device, anytime. Information is organized by themes, topics and tasks most requested by the public, rather than by department or agency.
How is Canada.ca developing?
To create Canada.ca, the Government of Canada took a collaborative approach and used the award-winning Web Experience Toolkit. This open-source software was created by the Government of Canada in 2009 to build more innovative websites that are accessible, usable, interoperable, mobile-friendly and multilingual.
Canada.ca was launched on December 18, 2013, and this marked the beginning of a four-year process that will merge 1 500 individual department and agency websites into one. This is a massive undertaking that will take place in phases. Themes will evolve and new topics will be added as departments migrate their Web content over to Canada.ca.
Between 2013 and 2014, visits to Canada.ca doubled. Users submitted over 30 000 comments, and mobile users increased to over 150 percent. The most popular search topics were my account, passport and change of address. The most popular themes included Immigration, Travel and Health. Existing federal websites will remain active until their content is fully migrated to the Canada.ca site.

In our first year:
- There were over 94 million visits to the website in the first year.
- There have been over 30 000 comments submitted.
- The number of users accessing the site by mobile devices has increased by over 150 percent.
- The most searched topics were my account, passport and change of address and the most popular themes were Immigration, Travel and Health.
