National historic sites are places of profound importance to Canada. They reflect the rich heritage of our country and provide an opportunity for Canadians to learn more about our diversity, including the history, cultures and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. Canada’s first national historic site was designated in 1917. Today, there are more than 970 national historic sites; of these, 171 are administered by Parks Canada.
