1958 west point weekend annual hockey game

DYK: From the first Westpoint hockey game up until 1954 the games had a ‘no penalty’ format. This format was intended to emphasize the gentlemanly conduct and honourable participation of both teams. After the Second World War the games were more competition based and penalties were enforced to protect the players.

5 Squadron food drive

5 Squadron with their food drive donations

5 Squadron was able to collect 2804 lbs of food and raised $1040 in donations for the Partners in Mission Foodbank! Well done 5 Squadron! Below is what OCdt Brayden MacMaster had to say about their efforts. "The 5 Squadron food drive was an event initiated in the beginning of November to motivate officer cadets to give back to the community. The squadron was divided up into small groups of 6-8 people (By their section) and were challenged to beat each other in total item contributions each week. The competition was aimed at bringing in the most items and these tallies were sent out regularly through the month to maintain the competition. Halfway into the month our Squadron Commander and Petty Officer 1st class offered to have the top contributors over for dinner at their houses and we also allowed for cash donations to be used to buy even more food. By the end of the month, as a squadron we raised just over $1500, some of which went to purchase more food. We then delivered it to the food bank on Wednesday December 6th, with a grand total of 2804 lbs of food and $1040 in cash."
