Honorary Aides-de-Camp are military or civil officers in uniform, acting on a volunteer basis, who mark the official status of The Queen’s representative and accompany the Lieutenant Governor to all official engagements.

HADC Biographies
Deputy Chief Conservation Officer (Ret’d) William (Bill) Bresser, AdeC
Represents: Conservation Officer Service
Prior to his retirement in 2010, Deputy Chief Conservation Officer Bresser completed 42 years working in federal and provincial law enforcement. This included 24 ½ years of service in various locations across western Canada with the RCMP, and a follow-up career with the Conservation Officer Service, which saw him take on progressively responsible managerial roles. Deputy Chief Conservation Officer Bresser’s law enforcement career was highlighted by his participation in various VIP duties, involvement in a number of high profile investigations, establishment of specialized plainclothes investigative units in the RCMP and Conservation Officer Service, participation as a rider on the RCMP’s equestrian jumping team during the Force’s 1973 cross-Canada centennial celebrations, and establishment of a ceremonial unit. He is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee and the RCMP Long Service Medals. Deputy Chief Conservation Officer Bresser continues to sit on various volunteer boards, and maintains a physically active lifestyle.
Lieutenant-Commander Simon Brown, AdeC

Lieutenant-Commander Simon Brown has served for 24 years in the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Navy. He graduated from Britannia Royal Naval College in 1991 and deployed twice to the Arabian Gulf as well as Operation SHARP GUARD in the Adriatic Sea in 1995. He was fortunate to have two very enjoyable years in command of the Patrol Boat – HMS EXPLOIT. Specializing in Naval Warfare and Navigation he later joined the Royal Canadian Navy after a two year exchange appointment. Outside of his eight sea postings, the other highlights of his career include Head of Navigation training and Executive Officer at Venture, the Naval Officers Training Centre in Victoria.
Lieutenant Commander Brown is currently serving at the Maritime Forces Pacific Headquarters in Esquimalt. A keen runner, he has represented the Maritime Forces Pacific Masters at the half-marathon distance.

Deputy Warden Patrick Doherty, AdeC

Deputy Warden Patrick Doherty has served with the BC Corrections Branch for 25 years. He began his career working as a Correctional officer and held a variety of posts throughout the gaol. He is currently the Deputy Warden of Operations at Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre. He was an Army Cadet in the 2618 Rocky Mountain Rangers (Prince George) and the 1726 Canadian Scottish Regiment (Comox). Deputy Warden Doherty holds a Criminal Justice Diploma from Camosun College. He served 10 years in the Canadian Scottish Regiment where he attained the rank of Sergeant. Deputy Warden Doherty is the recipient of the Corrections Exemplary Service Medal, as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals.

Superintendent Glen Greenhill has served with the BC Ambulance Service for 33 years. He began his career working as a part-time paramedic in the Comox Valley, then moved into full time working in Vancouver and Victoria both as a paramedic and an emergency medical dispatcher. Superintendent Greenhill then went into a leadership role as Paramedic Unit Chief of the BC Ambulance Service Station in Campbell River for more than 17 years.
Superintendent Greenhill is currently the manager of Patient Care Delivery for the Comox-Strathcona District for BCEHS/BCAS. He is the recipient of the Order of St. John, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, as well as the Emergency Medical Services and Peace Officer’s Exemplary Service Medals.
Captain Victor Gronmyr, AdeC

Captain Victor Gronmyr graduated from the Coast Guard College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Technology (Nautical Sciences). He has worked in the Pacific Region as a Deck Officer on a variety of Coast Guard Ships including voyages to the Western Arctic on the CCGS Arctic Ivik and the CCGS Sir Wilfrid Laurier. He has extensive command experience as Commanding Officer aboard small to large Coast Guard Ships. He is currently the alternate Head of Delegation for the Combined Operations Working Group of the Northern Pacific Coast Guard Forum. In 2011, he completed a three-year rotation ashore as the Superintendent of the Regional Operation Center (ROC), Western.

Mr. Herman Ho, KStJ, MB, AdeC

Mr. Herman Ho received his initial first aid training with St. John Ambulance some 40 years ago as a young boy scout. He joined St. John Ambulance Brigade in 1991 as a junior Division Officer and progressed through the ranks to attain the senior leadership position of Provincial Commissioner (2012 to 2015) responsible for the administration and operation of 1,500 uniformed St. John Ambulance Brigade volunteers in British Columbia and Yukon. During his 25 years of Brigade service, Mr. Ho has held senior positions in the St. John youth program, administration, planning and leadership training. Currently as Past Provincial Commissioner, he continues to support the Brigade and St. John Ambulance in an advisory capacity. In 2007, Mr. Ho, as Deputy Provincial Commissioner of the Brigade, was appointed Honorary Aide-de-Camp and continues to represent the St. John Ambulance Brigade as an HADC. Mr. Ho is a Knight of the Order of St. John and a recipient of the Medal of Bravery.

Inspector Terry Kopan joined the RCMP in 1981 and has served in a variety of policing roles in several British Columbia communities. Most recently, he has worked in the provincial headquarters positions and is currently the Officer in Charge of National Performance Programs (Pacific). Inspector Kopan is also a serving member of the Canadian Forces Reserves in the Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC). In this youth development avocation, he has worked with numerous cadet corps, been an Area CIC Officer, commanded Vernon Cadet Training Centre and served a term as National Branch Advisor for the CIC.
Captain Evelyne Lacey, CD, AdeC
Represents: Canadian Army – Regional Cadet Support Unit (Pacific)
Captain Evelyne Lacey joined the Canadian Forces as a Cadet Instructor Cadre officer in 1995. She has worked with the Air and Army cadet programs, both at the local and cadet summer training centres. In 2009, Captain Lacey was approached to help, working in partnership with the Cowichan Tribes, to set up and establish an Aboriginal Army Corps in Duncan. In September 2010 she was appointed Commanding Officer of 2924 (Khowutzun) Army Cadet Corps which is unique to BC as it incorporates tribal customs and practices blended into the National Army Cadet program.
Captain Lacey, after many years of nursing in various locations around BC, is currently employed at the Regional Cadet Instructor School (Pacific), located in Victoria, where she is an instructor responsible for delivering training to CIC officers. In addition to her Registered Nurse diploma, she has earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Adult Education.
Major Rick M. Lewis, OMM, OStJ, CD, AdeC

Major Rick Lewis joined the Royal Canadian Army cadets in 1972. He completed his career as a Master Cadet at the rank of Captain senior cadet of the 2618 RCACC Corps in Prince George. He then changed into a Canadian Forces uniform as an Officer in 1977. He has held numerous positions within the Canadian Forces and the Canadian Cadet Organization and is currently the Tri – service Area CIC Officer for North Central B.C. In his civilian career, he is the Human Resources Manager for Canfor’s Prince George / Intercontinental Pulp Mills and Specialty Paper. He has extensive training and experience in the field of Labour Negotiations, Conflict Resolution and Critical Incident Stress Management.
Sergeant Josh Lockwood

Sergeant Josh Lockwood is currently the Zone Supervisor for North Okanagan Field Operations (Kelowna –Vernon). He began his career with the Conservation Service in 1985 and has worked in the Major Investigations Unit and General Duty Operations Field Unit. Sergeant Lockwood currently co-leads the Provincial Ceremonial Unit and instructs at the Western Canadian Law Enforcement Academy in Hinton, Alberta. Sergeant Lockwood is the recipient of the Exemplary Service Medal and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Lieutenant-Colonel Heather McClelland , CD, AdeC

Lieutenant Colonel Heather McClelland was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1964. In 1983, after completing two years of Air Cadets, she joined HMCS Malahat for their Summer Youth Employment Program. Discovering she did not have sea legs, she transferred to the 11 (Victoria) Medical Company, now 11 (Victoria) Field Ambulance, as a private soldier in the trade of Casualty Aide in March 1984. After 34 years of service, Lieutenant Colonel McClelland remains an active member of both 11 (Victoria) and 12 (Vancouver) Field Ambulances and holds the position of Commanding Officer for both. LCol McClelland completed an Associate of Arts Degree in Anthropology from Camosun College in 1999 before graduating with distinction from the University of Victoria in June 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She completed the two year Joint Command and Staff College in June 2015, through the Canadian Forces College, and completed the Masters in Defence Studies from Royal Military College in 2017.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta, Captain McNish attended the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Upon graduation, she was deployed to the West Coast where she sailed on a wide range of Coast Guard Vessels. Captain McNish’s career has included working in many different programs such as Ocean Sciences, Search and Rescue, Conservation and Protection, Aids to Navigation and Arctic operations. Commanding Officer for the past 14 years, she is currently assigned to CCGS John P Tully. Over the span of a 30-year career, Captain McNish has engaged in various shore assignments, including Superintendent Regional Operation Centre, Senior Investigator with the Transportation Safety Board and more recently Acting Regional Director Fleet. Captain McNish’s extensive career has included assignments as shipboard officer in the Arctic, Antarctica and South America.

David Valentine joined St. John Ambulance as a member of the Victoria Brigade Executive Committee in 2004 and became Deputy Commissioner Operations (Vancouver Island) in 2012. Prior to this, Mr. Valentine was a Superintendent with B.C Ambulance Service, a City of Victoria Police Officer and a teacher. Mr. Valentine also served with the Canadian Forces for over 38 years. He has completed a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education, one in Police Sciences, a Diploma in Business Administration and is currently writing a Thesis for his Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration with two Rosettes, the Police Exemplary Service Medal and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Mr. Valentine has served as an Honorary Aide-de-Camp since 2002.

Superintendent Daryl Wiebe joined the Vancouver Police Department in 1981 and currently commands Personnel Services, within the Support Services Division. He is a graduate of Royal Roads University, with a Master of Arts Degree in Justice and Public Safety Leadership, and has completed two years of study in Criminology at Simon Fraser University and numerous courses in Human Resource Management at BCIT. Superintendent Wiebe is the recipient of three individual Commendations and four Unit Citations within the VPD, along with the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, the Police Exemplary Service Medal and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
