Objectives
Although each publication has its own specific purpose the overall objective is to help you understand and properly apply the information on a MSDS.
Scope
These publications have been prepared as a source of information for anyone who works with or has an interest in understanding Material Safety Data Sheets.
Target Audience
Intended primarily as guides for non-technical users of MSDSs (Material Safety Data Sheets), including:
- Managers and Supervisors responsible for WHMIS compliance
- Workers who have taken a WHMIS course and would like a handy reference for explanations and more detailed information
- WHMIS instructors who may use these publications as resources and handouts
- Health and safety committee members who must evaluate and approve chemical safety plans
- The Safety Data Sheet: A Guide to First-Aid Recommendations is useful to people responsible for the health and first aid sections of MSDSs or who use MSDSs to plan and establish first aid programs for chemicals.

Each publication produced by CCOHS undergoes several stages of review. As part of this review, representatives from government, employers, and labour are requested to comment on draft copies of CCOHS documents for technical accuracy and readability.
