Courses in OH&S Canada

What institutions offer occupational health and safety (OH&S;) courses in Canada?

The following table summarizes what OH&S; degree, diploma, and certificate programs are offered in colleges and universities across Canada (listed from west to east). Since there may be other institutions offering similar courses that are not listed below, you should contact your local colleges and universities to find out if they offer a program that will meet your needs. We have mentioned these schools as a means of providing a potentially useful referral. You should contact the school directly for more information. Please note that mention of these schools does not represent a recommendation or endorsement by CCOHS of these schools over others of which you may be aware.

Other programs like labour and workplace studies or engineering programs may have occupational health and safety components but do not provide an OH&S; certificate. These programs and others that provide specialized courses like human factors, ergonomics, occupational health nursing or occupational medicine are not included in this list.

How can I find out if other OHS courses are offered?

Check local libraries for university and college course calendars; however, most are published on the Internet. Check universities and colleges in your area even if they are not listed in the above table to see if they offer workshops, professional development courses, training programs, certificates, diplomas or degrees in subject areas related to occupational health and safety. Also contact local safety councils and associations for information on training programs that they offer.

What do I do if I know of other Canadian colleges or universities that offer occupational health and safety courses, certificates or degrees?

If you know of other courses that are not listed above or about any programs that have changed, please send the information to us using our Contact Us form. As we get more details we will update this OSH Answers document.

Where is there a list of Canadian colleges and universities?

You can search for specific undergraduate or graduate programs by area of study by visiting UniversityStudy.ca.  Access their searchable database for more information.
