Investigative Journalist
We are looking for an energetic and motivated investigative journalist to join our team. We are seeking someone who loves to uncover stories, dig deep into the background, file stacks of access-to-information requests, ask the tough questions and hold the powerful accountable. The CTF’s investigative journalist can work remotely, anywhere in Canada. However, preference may be given to those wishing to work out of our federal office in Ottawa. The CTF’s investigative journalist will report to the CTF’s Vice President, Communications. The CTF’s investigative journalist will be the CTF’s primary researcher and investigator.
The investigative journalist will be expected to work independently to research, develop and regularly report publicly on stories of government waste and lack of accountability.
The investigative journalist should have experience in journalism and with the various techniques investigative journalists use to develop and tell stories (eg. FOI requests, record searches, source development, etc.) A strong writing ability is a must (including familiarity with Canadian Press style). While experience in broadcast journalism isn’t a requirement, it is an asset. Preference may be given to candidates with post-secondary journalism training. Proficiency in French is an asset, but not a requirement.
The director must be a flexible and creative individual, prepared to work long hours and take initiative in a dynamic and often unpredictable work environment. Above all, the director must be enthusiastic and committed to the mission of the CTF.
Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Interested in an Internship with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF)?
The CTF hires one full-time paid intern for the fall semester (September-December), one intern for the winter semester (January-April) and two interns for the summer (May-August) to work in our Ottawa office.
Our internship program offers post-secondary students and recent graduates the unique opportunity to work alongside our federal communications director and our research director, conducting research and advocacy work.

How to apply for CTF Internship
The CTF looking to hire one or more full-time or part-time paid interns for the full 2019-20 year (September 2019-August 2020), to work in either our Ottawa office or our Regina office. This intern will focus primarily on taxpayer issues in Atlantic Canada. This position will offer the flexibility of full-time hours in the summer and part-time hours during the school year.
