Contributions to Fundraisers

How do I request a contribution from the museum for my fundraising event?
The Canadian Museum of Nature is committed to assisting the fundraising efforts of charitable organizations and non-profit community groups wherever possible. We do not support fundraisers for personal gain.

Please submit your request at least 60 days prior to your event.

Requests must include the following information:

• organization name
• contact name
• phone number
• mailing address
• event date
• brief event description
• organization charitable number (if available).

We regret that we will not respond to requests that do not meet the above requirements and conditions.

Visiting the Museum

I have a disability. Is the museum accessible?
The museum is fully accessible. Get specific information.

Admission to our permanent galleries is free for one person accompanying a person with a disability. More information.

How long do I need to visit the museum?
Please allow about two to three hours for a reasonably complete visit of the museum. Plan your visit.

I would like information about bringing a group to the museum.

Weddings and Other Events

I would like to have my wedding at the museum. What are my options?

How do I find out about employment opportunities at the museum?

Can I do an unpaid internship at the museum as part of my university or college program?
We accept a small number of unpaid interns, and we occasionally offer paid internships. More information.

Does the museum commission artistic works?
The Canadian Museum of Nature does not accept unsolicited proposals from artists or photographers for the creation or display of art, crafts or exhibitions in the museum's facilities. On occasion, the museum will issue a call for photographs, artworks or artists in association with museum activities. Such call-outs will be posted in our Careers page.

Species Identifications

Can you tell me what this is?
We do not offer species identification services to the general public, except what we can readily identify at Nature Trade.

Specimen Donations

Does the museum accept donations of specimens?
The museum develops collections pertaining to the natural history of the world, with emphasis on specimens associated with Canada.

The decision on whether or not to acquire a donation is based on a number of criteria, including but not limited to

• whether the donation has scientific, historical or cultural interest
• whether the donation supports the museum's research activities and projects
• whether the donation addresses a gap in the museum's collections, of which Canadian, North American, and Pan-Arctic specimens predominate
• whether the museum has the capacity to professionally curate the donation within a reasonable time frame
• whether there is clear title to the specimen
• whether the specimen has been acquired ethically.

If you have something you wish to donate that may fit these criteria, please write to us with a description of your specimen(s).
