The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) encourages individuals and organizations to suggest a new standard, or revisions to an existing standard, to meet the needs of industry, government and consumers. Standards are developed or revised to:
- Meet a business need, like enhancing efficiency or certifying an innovative product for which a standard does not exist,
- Help a company expand its markets, in Canada and around the world,
- Improve alignment of standards - internationally, regionally and within Canada, or
- Address specific health or safety concerns.
How do I suggest a new standard or request revisions to an existing standard?
To suggest a new standard for development, or revisions to an existing standard, simply:
- Download and complete the “Suggest a new standard or revision to an existing standard” form.
- Email the form to the Standards Council of Canada at info@scc.ca. Please note that not all suggestions will be accepted.
What happens after I suggest a new standard or revisions to an existing standard?
SCC will contact you to discuss and review your submission. SCC will then explore all options for a standard development project based on your suggestion. During this process, SCC may consult with subject matter experts and relevant stakeholders before identifying a recommended approach.
Can I talk to someone about my suggestion for a new or revised standard, or discuss other options to meet my needs?
If you have questions about the process, or if you would like to consult with an expert about the many standardization solutions available to you, please contact SCC at info@scc.ca.
