Canadian colleges and universities play crucial roles in shaping the future of Canada's workforce and in securing its position in the global economy. The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) provides a valuable service to Canadian academic institutions by offering access to ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards through its Standards in Education program (SiEp).
As the Canadian member body of ISO and IEC, SCC is able to offer subscriptions to ISO and IEC standards to post-secondary educational institutions in Canada at reduced cost.
Benefits of participation
Direct, easy access to ISO and IEC standards enables students to gain a better understanding of the standardization process, produce higher quality academic work and be better qualified to enter the workforce.
Over 30 universities and colleges across Canada, including the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia, are already involved in SCC’s SiEp.
Subscribers can explore the complete ISO and IEC standards databases through the user-friendly SiEp platform. Navigation is made easy via a range of tools that enable users to customize searches and selections as needed.
How to obtain the standards you need through SiEp
Standards are typically used as part of a course pack or to supplement a student’s chosen field of research. Requests may be submitted by course professors, or other designated individuals, such as chief librarians.
SCC’s Standards in Education program is administered by IHS Global.
