The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking persons with experience related to greenhouse gas emission quantification and project validation/verification to support the accreditation of validation/verification bodies (VVBs) on a contractual basis.

SCC’s Greenhouse Gas Accreditation Program (GHG-AP) comprise different GHG technical areas and program schemes that include:
- Verified Carbon Standard - VCS Program,
- International Civil Aviation Organization’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (ICAO-CORSIA),
- Federal Output-Based Pricing System (OBPS).
Job Summary and Key Activities
The GHG assessor plays a key role in the assessment of Validation/Verification Bodies (VVBs) as part of SCC’s GHG-AP.
Working on a contractual basis, the assessor uses their knowledge and expertise in GHG related technical sectors and programs to assist SCC with the evaluation of VVBs technical competency and qualifications. The GHG assessor brings their strong analytical and interpersonal skills, as well as sound judgement to provide expert advice to the assessment team.
They will apply their considerable technical expertise by conducting file reviews, interviews with VVB personnel and witness audits to support accreditation assessments.
Key Activities
- Works closely with the SCC personnel to determine the scope and criteria to be assessed
- Conducts interviews with VVB personnel
- Reviews VVB records and assess evidence of conformity with relevant criteria
- Observes the work of VVB personnel to assess the conformity to procedures and application of relevant criteria
- Reports to the Lead Assessor on findings and provides recommendations based on evidence
Essential Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary education and training in related fields or disciplines
Experience
- Working experience related to validation and/or verification activities with specific evidence related to 14064-1, 14064-2, and 14064-3

Experience in the following technical areas considered an asset:
- Emissions reductions from agriculture and forestry
- Emissions reductions from livestock
- Electric power transactions
- Carbon capture and storage
- Emissions reductions from transportation fuel combustion
Knowledge
- Knowledge of GHG technical sectors and different mandatory and voluntary schemes
- Knowledge of ISO 14065 and 14066 is considered an asset
Skills
- Strong technical, analytical and review skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Sound judgement and evaluation abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, both within an assessment team, and with customers
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, and web-based communications
Abilities
- Ability to work independently or with limited supervision
- Ability to effectively represent SCC and follow SCC’s policies and procedures
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
- Ability to work in French and English considered strong asset
- Availability to travel within Canada and the United States, occasionally on short notice
- Ability to work in a variety of industrial, commercial and manufacturing environments
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
