New art exhibit connects Cape Breton & Nairobi

Ski Ben Eoin on the hook for legal costs

The Nova Scotia Supreme Court has ordered the Cape Breton Ski Club to pay 30-thousand dollars after a failed legal attempt to halt the sale of the The Lakes golf course to a local development group. Big Pond RV Park appeal denied

A panel of three judges rejected the Cape Breton Regional Municipality's appeal of a Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board decision to halt an RV Park from being built in Big Pond. Reporter Tom Ayers has reaction to the latest decision from Helen Doherty, one of the residents opposed to the RV park, and from CBRM Mayor Cecil Clarke.

Should ALL advertising on telephone poles come down?

Some councillors from the Cape Breton Regional Municipality want to revisit an earlier decision to remove advertising signs from utility poles and municipal road signs. Starting August first, staff began removing the signs... ALL signs. But, after complaints, signage from community groups and non-profit organizations will be addressed.

Cuzner's Regret

Rogue 100-foot wave reported between Cape Breton and Newfoundland

Much of the hurricane coverage has focussed on what Dorian did on land. But, a massive 30 metre wave was recorded by a weather buoy off Newfoundland. Some parishioners in Christmas Island are defying the Diocese

A community group in Christmas Island is continuing to use their Church even though it's been closed and the Diocese has told the congregation it's "off limits". The Shred Sirens - an all-female skateboarding group

Meet some women and girls who gather every Sunday evening at Undercurrent Youth Centre in Glace Bay to learn skateboarding. Improving access to the water in case of emergency

A mapping project is underway, identifying slipways and ramps along the Mira River. The Albert Bridge Volunteer Fire Department wants the information so they know the quickest and easiest way to reach the water in an emergency. Michael Hilliard is the Fire Chief, and he describes the project and why the data would be crucial in water rescue calls.

Name Change: Union of Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq

What's in a name? 50 years after it was founded, the Union of Nova Scotia Indians has changed its name to the Union of Nova Scotia M'kmaq. Doug Brown is the Executive Director of the organization formed to provide a unified political voice for the Mi'kmaq people of Nova Scotia.

Lots of revitalization in New Aberdeen

A community group in New Aberdeen is working to revitalize 40 derelict lots made available to them by the CBRM. The idea is to sell the lots for 3 thousand dollars each, and encourage people to settle in the former mining community. Al Moore, Vice Chair of the New Aberdeen Revitalization Society, is looking forward to seeing the first new home built by this fall.

Eskasoni expands

Eskasoni First Nation just got approval from the federal government to add a big chunk of land to the reserve. In 2016, they bought a couple of hundred acres of land, next door, at Castle Bay.
