Kid-Friendly Pumpkin Spice Latte

Oct 8, 2019

Pumpkin spice season has rolled back around, which means pumpkin-flavoured and scented everything can be found everywhere. And I think we all know the most popular and iconic pumpkin treat: the pumpkin spice latte.

A traditional “latte” is made from a mixture of milk and coffee, but this recipe contains no coffee, making it kid-friendly so the little ones can join in on the pumpkin spice latte craze. (Parents, if you want to make yourself a version with coffee, I’ve included a note in the recipe below on how to adjust accordingly.)

And this pumpkin spice latte recipe is much simpler than the one you'll find in almost any coffee shop. You’re going to recognize all of the ingredients, plus, there are only four of them. And the bonus: you can have it ready in under 10 minutes.

Serve these kid-friendly pumpkin spice lattes on their own or with pumpkin scones, pumpkin pasties, mini pumpkin pies or your favourite pumpkin treats.

Ingredients

Ingredients you'll need to make your pumpkin spice latte

  • 1 1/4 cups of your favourite unsweetened milk
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • Whipped cream and ground cinnamon for garnishing, optional (see note below)

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a small pot. Whisk the mixture together and continue to whisk until the mixture is steaming, but not boiling.
  2. Carefully pour into mugs.
  3. Garnish with optional toppings (see note below).

Makes two small servings (recipe may be doubled or tripled, if needed).

Recipe Notes:

Any type of milk may be used to make this recipe, but my favourite is almond milk or oat milk. And I think one tablespoon of maple syrup adds the perfect amount of sweetness, but if you like it sweeter, adjust as necessary. Canned pumpkin puree or homemade pumpkin puree may also be used for this recipe.

To make these pumpkin spice lattes a little more fancy, use whipped cream to garnish — my favourite is coconut whipped cream. You can also add a sprinkle of ground cinnamon on top of the whipped cream, like in the pictures.

Parents: If you would like to make a more traditional pumpkin spice latte for yourself, replace a half cup of the milk with brewed coffee.

Enjoy pumpkin season while it lasts because before you know it, the snow will arrive and hot chocolate season will set in for a long few months!
