Passport receiving agents

Over 300 Service Canada Centres across the country are passport receiving agents. They can:

  • accept standard passport applications in person
  • take your fee payment
  • collect and validate your supporting documents, including:
    • photos
    • proof of citizenship
    • identification document
  • review your application to make sure it is complete
  • send your application to us for processing

We will deliver your new passport to the mailing address you put in your application after we approve and issue it.

What you can submit to a receiving agent

Applications and documents that you can submit to a receiving agent include:

  • passport renewal applications
  • adult passport applications
  • child passport applications, if both parents are participating
  • child passport applications with only one parent only when:
    • there is only one parent listed on the child’s birth certificate or proof of parentage document; and
    • a death certificate is submitted for one of the parents listed on the child’s birth certificate or proof of parentage document
  • adult passport applications with name changes due to a relationship status change (you must include supporting documents)
  • applications from Canadians living in the United States

What you cannot submit to a receiving agent

Applications and documents that you can’t submit to a receiving agent include:

  • urgent or express applications
  • children’s applications when only one parent is participating, except in the following cases that can be accepted:
    • where there is only one parent listed on the child’s birth certificate or proof of parentage document; or
    • when a death certificate is submitted for one of the parents listed on the child’s birth certificate or proof of parentage document
  • applications from Canadians living outside Canada and the United States (must be submitted at a passport office only)
  • applications for Certificate of Identity or Refugee travel documents for non–Canadians
  • applications asking for a name listed in the passport that isn’t the same as the name shown on the:
    • proof of Canadian citizenship
    • supporting identification (for adult applications)

Passport Program employees make the final decisions on all passport applications.
