Minor hockey teams in the Sudbury area have teamed up with a local business to donate to the Infant Food Bank.

Algoma University wrestling coach Trevor Manchester says it’s a big deal that his team is ranked among the top 10 in the country at the half-way mark of the competitive season. The men’s team has just been ranked seventh in the country and five of the wrestlers have reached top 10 rankings.

Eric Laberge, the president of District 3 of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation, said contract negotiations with the provincial government are causing a sense of unease for new teachers, many of whom have never been in a strike position before.

Ontario’s annual Hunger Report is out and the changing nature of those using food banks is a reminder that a job is increasingly no protection against hunger. Feed Ontario, formerly the Ontario Association of Food Banks, says in its 2019 Hunger Report there’s been a 27 per cent increase over three years in the number of working poor seeking help from food banks.
