Take a guided tour led by interpreters who know the Museum inside and out.
Some tours, such as the popular “Explore the Galleries,” run on a regular schedule for walk-up visitors (see times/days below).
All tours can also be booked for private groups by contacting us at least two weeks in advance at 204–289-2000 or tours@humanrights.ca.
Explore the Galleries
60–90 minutes
Daily
The Explore the Galleries tour takes you on a unique journey through a selection of galleries and exhibits, connecting you with compelling human rights stories. On this tour, you’ll learn what the Canadian Museum for Human Rights is all about. Our staff will help you explore how your rights are protected and be inspired by stories of courage and action. After the tour, take time to explore the Museum on your own and visit the Israel Asper Tower of Hope.

Discover the Building
60 minutes
The Discover the Building tour leads you through the amazing encounter between architecture and human rights. On this tour, you will explore the building and learn about its inspiring spaces and how they are used, its environmental design features and its stunning alabaster ramps. This tour does not include interpretation of gallery content. You are welcome to take time afterwards to explore the galleries on your own.

Women’s Rights Tour
75 minutes
Take a special guided tour with a focus on women’s rights through the powerful stories and inspiring contributions of women in Canada and around the world towards gender equality.
Discover the life’s work of Betty Friedan, Jeannette Corbiere Lavell and Winnie Mandela among others.
This 75-minute tour with one of our interpreters will stop at exhibits focused on women’s rights located throughout the Museum galleries.
After the tour, take the time to explore on your own. Talk to our in-gallery staff to learn more.

Métis Rights Tour
60 minutes
Manitoba is the heart of the homeland of the Métis people. This tour explores how the Métis have influenced Canada’s human rights journey. Learn about the role and impact of Métis leader Louis Riel as we trace the story of the Métis nation from early settlement to the cultural and political resurgence of today. See the world’s largest Métis beaded artwork, learn about the Rules of the Buffalo Hunt and discover the significance of the colours of the Métis sash.

Indigenous Rights Tour
120 minutes
Pre-bookings only
This tour, developed in keeping with the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, explores the connections between contemporary issues and historic violations of Indigenous rights. Experience a 360-degree film in a circular theatre, a four-storey clay artwork, stories of survival and many exhibits throughout the Museum’s galleries. Participate in activities that challenge dominant world views and reflect upon Indigenous Peoples’ resistance and resilience in the face of genocidal policies. Discuss the power of breaking down stereotypes and using respectful language. Consider pathways to taking individual action towards reconciliation.

Audio Guide
This self-guided tour provides you with highlights of the exhibits and architecture at the Museum. In some galleries, the voices of curators and program developers are included, explaining their work.
“Near Me” Mode
This feature picks up information transmitted from one of 150 close-proximity Bluetooth iBeacons, located throughout the Museum. Designed to assist visitors who are blind or have low vision, this feature makes information accessible through Text-to-Speech (TTS) readers. Use of this technology is a first for a Canadian cultural institution.
Accessibility
Full accessibility is an important aspect of the app and self-guided tour. Universal Access Points with Braille, tactile numbers and “cane-stop” floor strips alert visitors that more information is available through the app’s “Near Me” mode.
For visitors who are Deaf or hard of hearing, the app can be viewed in American Sign Language (ASL) or Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ). Sign-language content for some exhibits can only be accessed through the app.
Interactive Panorama
Using the camera on your mobile device, you can find augmented reality “hot spots” that relay information about Winnipeg landmarks visible from the Israel Asper Tower of Hope and the Ceremonial Terrace on Level 2.
