Yukon minimum wage

As of April 1, 2020 the minimum wage is increased to $13.71 per hour. All employers must pay employees the hourly minimum wage or higher.

This change represents a 2 per cent increase based on the 2019 Consumer Price Index for Whitehorse plus an additional $0.75.

In 2019, the Minister of Community Services asked the Employment Standards Board to consider four criteria when considering increases for 2020 and 2021: 

  • Changes in the annual Consumer Price Index
  • A Comparison and monitoring of other jurisdictions
  • An economic impact analysis of additional increases, and

The Yukon Department of Finance commissioned the fall 2019 Economic evaluation of proposed changes to the minimum wage and provided it to the Employment Standards Board to consider in making its recommendation.

How are wage rates for government contracts set?

The fair wage schedule sets the wage rates for workers on Government of Yukon public works contracts. Rates are adjusted on April 1 every year based on the Consumer Price Index for Whitehorse.
