Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba

Empowering Canada’s rural, Indigenous, and underserved
communities through music and the arts.

Since 2006 in Alberta and Saskatchewan and since 2012 in Manitoba, the Music Alive Program has supported programming in hundreds of schools and communities. Hallmarks have included an innovative cross-cultural program, the creation of significant teacher resources on classical music and Indigenous arts, and professional development to develop the skills and practices of local teaching artists.

Book a Teaching Artist Visit

In addition to our regular and ongoing Music Alive Program activities, schools in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have the opportunity to book an artist visit and receive curriculum resource materials to correspond to one of our three established program streams. Participating schools will receive a visit from one or two professional teaching artists and a comprehensive digital curriculum resource package. Program materials are aimed at Grades 4-6, but teaching artists may be able to tailor their visit for other grade levels, and to your particular curriculum goals. We’re happy to speak with you about your school’s needs!

A limited number of bursaries are available each year for schools interested in booking one of these programs. Please contact us for more information.

The most valuable part of this experience was working with a real musician who could engage the students. We don’t have any [regular program] to help those who love music, so [Music Alive] is a big plus for our school. It has been fantastic for supporting and encouraging arts learning – thank you for supporting music in small rural schools!

Bring music into children’s lives

Your donations help the Music Alive Program reach more students, educators and communities across Canada. The National Youth and Education Trust is the NAC’s primary source of funding for initiatives that nurture and develop the creativity of children and youth, and support the educators and artists who challenge and encourage them.
